Life has a funny way of taking you places you never expected to go. For me, it started in a small city in China, where I grew up surrounded by the love of my single mom and her side of the family. My childhood was filled with warmth, but it was also marked by change—especially when my mom remarried, and we packed our lives to move to America. A new chapter began.
1. In every new environment, it is easy to feel like you don’t belong. But your perspective is unique and valuable. Speak up, share your story, and let your voice be heard.
High school was a rollercoaster. Over four years, I attended four different schools: a traditional Chinese school, a public American school, an online school, and finally, a private school. Each transition taught me something new: resilience, adaptability, and the importance of finding my voice in unfamiliar spaces. ‘
2. Sometimes, you have to leap into the unknown to discover what you’re truly capable of.
College brought its own set of challenges and adventures. I found my path to the Documentary Studies and Production major, fascinated by storytelling and the power of visuals. But as time passed, so did my confusion and lostness. So I took a gap year and moved to NYC by myself, a decision that changed everything. It was there, in the chaos of the city, that I learned to trust myself, explored my passions, and realized my love for creativity and communication.
3. It’s okay to change direction; your passions and interests can evolve—and that’s a good thing.
When I returned to school, I transferred to Advertising and Marketing Communications. It felt like the perfect blend of storytelling, strategy, and creativity—a way to connect with people on a deeper level while building something meaningful.
Every step of this journey—navigating a new culture, starting over in a new school, or building a life in a city that never sleeps—taught me the same lesson: Growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone.
